Our coaches functions openly, and seeks the involvement and contributions of the public, students and parents. Communication, as a school community is extremely important to us and we welcome your feedback.
Mission:
Develop within competitors the appropriate skills, knowledge, and understanding that enable them to be successful in the next phase of their lives.
Motto:
To provide the Best for All, so that All may be their Best. (The intent of this motto goes beyond our own team. Our topics and materials will promote socially just issues that provide the best for All, so that All may be their Best.)
Expectations: We expect the following...
1. Open communication between competitors, parents/guardians, coaches, and administrators.
2. Attendance at team practices. If attendance must be missed, a coach will be notified.
3. Two official practices per week, per category, take place in order to travel and compete at a meet.
4. Peer coaching is a valued part of our program and should be used on a weekly basis. Independent practice is a daily must. The use of technology to record and assist in the evaluation of performances is essential. Constant revisions of scripts takes place weekly.
5. Mentoring is an essential element of our team. Mentors are to help in competition and in academics.
6. The Yellow Jacket Speech Team works toward providing a supportive, functioning, and successful family atmosphere. Coaches, competitors, and parents/guardians work together.
7. If there are concerns that arise, during the season competitors will try and work out issues directly with the coaching staff. Competitors need to learn to advocate for themselves. If they need an outside arbitrator/facilitator/support they need to contact the Activities Director. If necessary parents/guardians, competitors, and the Activities Director will work toward a win/win scenario.
8. Topic, cuttings, and materials need to reflect socially just issues. We know that our voices may influence hundreds of others during the season.
9. We respect our selves, our judges, our coaches, our administrators, and our community. We follow MSHL rules. All critiques are to be analyzed and judges are looked upon as a friend and not the foe. We know we must win the judge and the audience. Competitors will use data from each critique to prepare for each meet.
10. We are a collaborative, supportive, and competitive team that knows the process and journey of communication only starts with the Yellow Jacket Speech Team. The skills and knowledge gained during seasons and competition will continue for a lifetime.
